Myles lifted his beer bottle but stopped inches from his lips. His heart kicked inside his chest, and heat soared through his body.

It never failed. The sight of Geneva always got his motor running, even now. At first, all he saw were her long legs encased in thigh-high boots, but then the rest of her luscious body came into view.

Damn, the woman was fine.

She reached the bottom step, and their gazes connected. Geneva had the power to make him forget that they were surrounded by people. Everything about her made her stand out from any other woman, but it was her self-confidence that really made her shine.

She headed his way. Her long strides ate up the space between them, and it was like everything and everybody disappeared. Lust radiated in her gorgeous eyes, and something so sensually intense passed between them.

Okaaay. What does that mean?

There were so many things Charlee loved about this man, but those same things irritated the hell out of her. Like for instance, he wasn’t a big talker, often letting his actions speak louder than words. However, when she needed him to say something, anything, he took his time and often didn’t share his thoughts without her prying them out of him.

“All of what?” she asked as he stood and started clearing the table. “Are you saying that you agree that you’ve been treating me like an alien?”

“Yes.”

Frustration drummed through her. “And you want to call a truce?”

Instead of loading the dishwasher, he started washing the dishes. “Yes.”

“And you want us to be friends? Like hanging out sometimes like we used to?” she continued carefully, mentally, and emotionally preparing herself for however he answered. He continued washing and drying dishes, seeming to marinate on each question.

“Yes,” he finally said.

“And you miss me?”

“Dammit, Charlee!” He threw the dish towel on the counter, suds flying everywhere. “Yes! What else do you want me to say? Yes! I agree with all of that.”

Charlee stood within an arm’s reach of him, her mouth hanging open at his outburst, unsure of what to say. The words out of his mouth were everything she wanted to hear, but the tension radiating off him and the tortured look on his face was saying something completely different.

“You…your presence. Heck, everything about you turns me on and confuses the hell out of me. You drive me…crazy! Yeah, that’s it. You drive me crazy, all right?” He angrily dried his hands. “Is that what you wanted to hear? Because that’s how you make me feel. Like…like I’m losing my damn mind! I can’t stop thinking about you, and it’s making me nuts. I miss the hell out of you, okay? Now stop with all of the questions!”

Breathing hard, he white-knuckled gripped the edge of the counter and hung his head as if it had taken every bit of energy he had to admit that to her.

A slow smile spread across Charlee’s mouth. Surely, he knew telling her to stop doing something was like telling her to go for it. Most people would be sympathetic to the apparent battle going on inside of him. She wasn’t most people. Happiness bubbled inside of her at the thought that she was making him crazy.

Served him right. The way she’d been missing him had been just as much torture, and she was glad he’d been experiencing it, too. Heck, she was so elated, a happy dance on top of the counter in only her underwear seemed in order. But she wouldn’t. At least not today.

“Okay, now that we got that out in the open, let’s talk.”

He whipped his head around so fast it was a wonder it didn’t roll off of his neck.

“Are you kidding me? We just talked. I just talked.”

Charlee burst out laughing. She laughed even harder when he rolled his eyes and poured himself another cup of coffee. If it was left up to Liam, he’d probably never talk.

“Okay, okay, I’ll do the talking and you’ll listen, something you’re really good at anyway. But there’s just one thing.”

Just as he brought the mug up to his lips, Charlee took it from him and set it on the counter next to the stove. She tugged on the front of his shirt, and Liam lifted a questioning brow but allowed her to pull him closer. His dark, piercing eyes met hers.

They wanted the same thing.

Her body hummed with need and her nipples tightened at the burning desire illuminating in his eyes. When his gaze volleyed from her eyes to her mouth, Charlee couldn’t resist any longer. She raised up on tiptoes and gently pressed her lips to his, anxious to see if that spark that they once shared was still there.

A jolt of electricity raced over her skin and excitement pulsed through her veins as her senses leaped to life.

Yep, that spark is still there.

She might’ve started the kiss, but Liam quickly took over. One of his strong arms encircled her waist and he pulled her tight against his body while his other hand gripped the back of her neck. His tongue swept into her mouth with a soul-reaching urgency that had Charlee gripping the back of his shirt, holding on for dear life.

She wasn’t surprised by her own eager response. Each time she’d seen him, she’d wanted to kiss him, taste him, be reminded of how perfect his mouth felt against hers. She wanted to be locked in his arms again and finally, finally she was right where she wanted to be if only for a minute.

When the kiss ended, a whoosh of air burst from her lungs and Charlee steadied herself, trying to exude some level of coolness. She didn’t want him to see how much the kiss affected her.

The left corner of his juicy lips quirked up. “I wondered if you’d taste the same,” he said huskily.

“Well, did I?” she asked, her voice shakier than she would’ve preferred.

His gaze lowered to her mouth and settled there for a while before reaching her eyes again. “I think I need another sample before I can form an official answer.”

Rayne was a temptation Jerry was finding hard to resist. Even now, he wanted to take her upstairs to his bedroom and make mad, passionate love to her. Or hell, taking her right there up against the counter would work too.

But they couldn’t take advantage of either of those options. Stormy might not be paying them any attention, but she was in the family room. With the open concept floorplan, they could see her and vice versa. They had to be careful of what they said and did in front of her.

Rayne turned to him, one arched brow lifted. “Now, who’s staring? Why are you looking at me like that?”

Jerry leaned in close, inhaling her fresh scent as he put a lingering kiss on her neck. “I want to lick every inch of your body, and then sex you up so good, you won’t be able to walk straight for days.”

Her mouth dropped open, then closed and opened again, but no words came out.

“Now, are you going to tell me why you’ve been acting strange since walking into my place?”

Her gaze dropped to his lips before returning to his eyes. “I want you so damn bad. I even dreamed that you screwed my brains out last night,” she whispered. “I woke up in a cold sweat, screaming your name, and now all I can think about is your hot, naked body joined with mine.”

Now he was the one staring at her with wide eyes and doing the guppy thing with his mouth. How the hell was he going to take it slow knowing she was having those types of dreams? But hearing her speak those words to him, especially considering how reserved she usually was, had Jerry ready to strip her naked and turn her dream into a reality. Consequences be damned.

But that was the old Jerry. He had to be smarter with Rayne. She was it for him. He didn’t see a future with anyone else but her, and he didn’t want to mess this up with a quick lay. Besides, it wasn’t just them they had to think about.

He glanced back at Stormy, who was still engrossed in the video game, then turned to Rayne. Unable to resist any longer, he covered her mouth with his. Each kiss between them got sweeter and sweeter, and when her lips parted slightly, he slid his tongue in and savored her goodness.

He had only intended the kiss to be brief, but Rayne fisted the front of his shirt, pulling him closer. His hand went automatically to the small of her back, and he held on. Jerry didn’t know what had gotten into her, but whatever it was, he liked this assertive side of her. And sneaking in a kiss here and there only added to their new adventure.

Excerpt:

“Why do I always have to go through this with you, Hamilton, and Angelo? Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate you guys looking out for me, but I’m a big girl. I don’t need my big brothers, going all He-Man whenever I have a date.”

“You know not to include me in the big brothers’ scenario,” Kenton said in a low voice close to her ear, his hand moving to her hip.

Had he not known for a fact that their feelings for each other were mutual, he wouldn’t have made such a bold move. He was close enough to feel Egypt shudder against him.

“I definitely don’t see you or consider you as a sister. In fact, the things I’d love to do with you would not fall into the brotherly love zone.”

Her hand went to his chest, and her touch scorched his skin right through his shirt. At 5’9” she was tall for a woman, but even with her high heels, the top of her head only came up to his nose. He had always been attracted to tall, curvy women and she didn’t disappoint.

“Kenton, I…we,” she started, but stopped and dropped her gaze. When her tongue slid across her bottom lip, an uncontrollable growl rumbled in his throat.

“Cancel your date, and go out with me,” he said, caressing her soft cheek with the pad of his thumb.

Egypt glanced up at him, and the urge to kiss her was stronger than ever.

“I already told you. I can’t go out with you.”

“You can’t or you won’t?”

She stepped out of his hold but didn’t move away. “Is there a difference?”

Kenton shoved his hands into his front, pants pockets to keep from touching her again. “Yeah, there is a difference. Have you ever seen the movie, Pretty Woman?”

Egypt’s brows shot up. “Are you kidding me? There’s not a woman alive who hasn’t seen the movie, at least twice. Question is, have you seen it?”

“I have three sisters, two who are older. It was impossible for me not to see it and every other chick flick that exists. The point is, toward the end of the movie, when Edward asks Vivian to stay with him for one more night, she gives a teary-eyed I can’t. That’s how you say I can’t, but without the tears.”

Egypt stared at him with her mouth hanging open but didn’t say anything.

“When you tell me you can’t go out with me, that speaks volumes. It means you can’t go out with me because you’re afraid, or it’s because of something that has happened in your past. Deep down, you really do want to date me.”

She shook her head, and Kenton didn’t miss the soft smile spreading across her lips. “You’re too much. You know that?”

“Tonight, there was something else behind your words, and I can’t put my finger on it. Have I done something to make you think that you and I can’t date? And don’t give me that shit about fraternizing. That rule is not included in our employee handbook.”

“Kenton…”

He grasped her arm gently and pulled her close. “If you told me that you won’t or will never go out with me, I would’ve backed off a long time ago. You haven’t done that. So which is it? You can’t go out with me, or you don’t want to?”

Egypt folded her bottom lip between her teeth as if debating on whether to tell him the truth or lie. As a former undercover FBI agent, he’d been good at reading people, and he already knew the answer. She wanted to be with him as much as he wanted to be with her, but something was holding her back. He didn’t know what, but he had every intention of finding out.

“Sweetheart, your silence tells me everything I need to know.”
