When Love Calls – Sneak Peek!
Ah…2018! Can you believe it’s a new year? Just when I started to settle into 2017, it ended! But no worries. I am ready for 2018 and have big plans for this year! I’m kicking off the new year with a new release – WHEN LOVE CALLS (Jenkins Family & Friends Novella).
If you remember, in Love Under Contract, book 1 of the Jenkins & Sons Construction series, I introduced Sumeera’s parents: Russell McCray and Mona Gregory. I had no idea they would make such an impression on my readers! Since then, I have received a number of emails, asking about Mona’s story and what happened after she walked away from Russell. In addition to those emails, several of you have requested that I write stories about more seasoned characters.
Well, I listened! Mona is a fifty-seven-year-old woman who has always wanted to get married and have a family. Instead, the man she ended up with showered her with every material thing a woman could want, but wasn’t interested in marriage or having a large family. At first, that wasn’t enough to make Mona leave him, but over the last few years, Russell has changed. And while he’s not the same man she fell in love with, Mona realizes she’s not the person she used to be either.
ABOUT WHEN LOVE CALLS:
Mona Lisa Gregory is ready to live her best life. She’s moving on after thirty-five years of dating one man. Scrapping the holy matrimony fantasy, a carefree and no-strings-attached passion is her new obsession. But her perfect plan has one hiccup. Dexter Jenkins.
Dex is an old-school guy who believes in falling in love with one woman and living happily-ever-after. He once had it all. A great job. Money in the bank. A happy, thirty-year marriage. He lost everything he held dear after one unfortunate accident. Guilt plagued him for years, but he has finally forgiven himself. Now he’s ready to give love a try again.
Mona is not looking for long-term. But Dexter is unwilling to ignore the fierce passion they share whenever he holds her in his arms. He will do whatever it takes to make her the next Mrs. Jenkins. But will secrets from his past and her former lover keep them from having the life they deserve? Or will their love be strong enough to withstand every obstacle placed in their way?
SNEAK PEEK:
“Back to my original question. Would you like to go and see the latest Morgan Freeman movie with me?”
She snapped her finger. “That’s who you remind me of. I’ve been puzzling my brain since the first time you spoke to me trying to figure out who you sound like. That deep, sensual baritone is just like Morgan Freeman’s.”
A slow smile spread across Dexter’s lips. “Sensual, huh?” Over the years, people had often commented on the deepness and the power behind his voice. But hearing Mona call his voice sensual had him sticking his chest out, feeling as if he could conquer the world.
Mona opened her mouth, but nothing came out and she shut it. That shyness he’d witnessed more often than not was back and so was her adorable smile.
Deciding not to pick on her, he asked, “So, how about a movie?”
“When?”
“Right now.”
“Now?”
“The movie starts in thirty minutes.”
She glanced down at her outfit again. “I would love to go, but that doesn’t give me enough time to shower and ch—”
“You look amazing, Mona. All you need to do is slip into a pair of shoes and grab a jacket.”
She twisted her bottom lip between her teeth as if seriously considering his invite.
“I’ll give you three minutes,” he prompted.
“Make it five and we have a deal.”
She didn’t wait for a response. Instead, she rushed to the back of the condo. Exactly five minutes later she returned. She had pulled her hair into a ponytail at the nape of her neck, added gloss to her lips, slipped into a pair of knee-high boots, and wore a short leather jacket.
Dexter grinned, impressed at the speed in which it took her to look even sexier. “You look great.”
She laughed. “We really need to get your eyes checked.”
He liked this side of her. Relaxed and carefree.
When she started to move past him, Dexter reached out and grabbed her hand. Without thinking, he pulled her to him and captured her mouth with his. She gasped, but that didn’t stop him from taking what he wanted. She kissed him back with a hunger that rivaled his, and excitement charged through his body.
He had been dreaming about kissing her again, wanting to confirm that the first time wasn’t a fluke. That he hadn’t imagined how perfect her body felt against his. Or how kissing her was like a fantasy come true.
As their tongues tangled, the kiss sang through his veins, sending blood rushing from his brain to the lower part of his body.
Nope, it hadn’t been a fluke, he thought, as Mona’s arms went around his neck, deepening their connection. The lip-lock was like a soldering heat that joined metals and Dexter never wanted to let her go.
Mona didn’t know yet, but before long she’d be all his.

Okay, here’s that sneak peek of INDEBTED that I promised!
About Indebted:
Even when he does good, he’s bad…
Detective Lazarus Dimas doesn’t play by the rules. On the streets, he’s a force to be reckoned with, a dangerous man with a badge and a gun. But he does have a soft spot — the sexy Assistant District Attorney Journey Ramsey. There is something about the woman he can’t shake. She’s irresistible and off limits. At least that’s what he keeps telling himself, but one kiss leads to others and well…so much for limits.
Journey plays by the rules, normally. But she can’t deny the sexual tension that sparks whenever Laz is near, even when he puts her professional integrity at risk. Laz is complex. The type of man fathers warn their daughters about. Yet, there’s a gentle, vulnerable side to Laz that he lets no one see except her, and she can’t resist him.
Can Laz prove he’s the man for Journey before a reopened case exposes his true colors? Or will the danger they face show that the love they share knows no boundaries?
Excerpt from Indebted by Sharon C. Cooper
Journey moaned as his tongue danced with hers, familiarizing itself with every nook and cranny of her luscious mouth. All the desire he’d had pent up over the years to kiss her came to the forefront as he savored every moment. This connection exceeded his expectations and when her hands slid into his hair, he just about lost it. His body throbbed with need. But just as quick as the kiss started, common sense settled over him like a cold chill.
They couldn’t do this. He was no good for her. If she ever got involved with him, his reputation alone would ruin her good name. Laz couldn’t let that happen.
Knowing this, he reluctantly broke off the kiss, but was slow to release her. They were like two magnets molded together and it was almost impossible to pull away. He needed to…he should…but he couldn’t, at least not yet.
Journey took her time opening her alluring eyes and he easily got lost in the dreaminess of them. This woman had a hold on him that he couldn’t explain. And now that he’d kissed her, he was screwed. If she had any idea how much power she had over him, she could do some serious damage to his heart. Good thing she’d never know.
Laz dropped his hands and Journey visibly shivered before clearing her throat.
“Um, how about that drink?” She hurried away from him, pouring herself a glass of wine, and taking a huge gulp.
Laz released a noisy breath and ran his hands through his hair, glad to know he wasn’t the only one affected by their intense lip-lock. Making himself at home, he reached into the refrigerator, not surprised that there was very little food since she spent most of her days at the office. Yet, she had plenty to drink. He grabbed a bottle of water and moved to the other side of the long counter, where she’d set the burritos he’d brought.
He pointed at their food. “Let’s eat. I’m starving.”
He waited until she was seated at the breakfast bar before snagging the stool next to her. They ate in silence, each lost in their own thoughts. What he needed to do was find out what she’d been holding back from him earlier, but first he had to get his body under control. Only minutes ago, flames of desire consumed him like the hottest fire, singeing every cell within him. He hadn’t felt this worked up in a while. Sure, he’d been with plenty of women over the years, but not one had him ready to say to hell with everything in order to have her. He hadn’t felt like this since…not since Gwenn.
Don’t go there, Dimas. He definitely didn’t need to travel down that mental road.
“The flowers were from a client,” Journey said out of nowhere.
Laz nodded, not bothering to ask if the client was male or female. It was best he didn’t know.
“Are you ready to tell me what you wanted to say earlier?” he finally asked Journey, tossing the wrapper from his burrito into the trash. He poured more wine into her glass before grabbing another bottle of water for himself. “Talk to me. What’s going on?”
She wrapped her hands around her wine glass and he could feel the tension bouncing off her.
“What’s wrong? Are you in trouble? Is it a case? Because whatever it is, I know it’s bothering you.” He touched her hand and she looked at him. “You can trust me. Tell me what happened.”
“Laz, I could lose my job or worse, be disbarred if I say anything right now.”
Okay, so this is serious.
“Is there something I can do to help?” he asked quietly. If she was in trouble, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do. He couldn’t explain his possessiveness when it came to her. He wasn’t even sure when his feelings for her had grown so strong.
“Be careful of the people around you,” she whispered, staring at her wine glass.
He stiffened. The words were spoken so quietly, he almost didn’t hear them.
“So this is about me?” he asked cautiously.
She gave a slight nod of her head before turning her troubled gaze in his direction. His heart squeezed. Not so much for himself, but for the worry he saw in her eyes. “I can’t tell you anything more yet, but for now Laz just…watch your back.”

Love Under Contract – Sneak Peek
Hi All!
After releasing the last book in the Jenkins Family series (SEDUCING THE BOSS LADY), many of you weren’t ready to say goodbye to the family! I’ve received numerous emails, inbox messages, and questions at conferences regarding the men in the Jenkins family. LOTS of questions (and a few suggestions). Well, I’m happy to say, it’s time for the Jenkins’ men to fall in love!
First up – Nicolas Jenkins-Moore. Nick has shown up in almost all of the books in the Jenkins Family series. He’s one of the older male cousins, and he’s a sheet metal worker by trade. Well, now that Peyton is no longer running Jenkins & Sons Construction (she’s married w/ a kid and lives in New York), Nick has been promoted to senior manager of the family’s business.
In this first book of the series -LOVE UNDER CONTRACT- you’ll get to catch up with those Jenkins’ girls (and yes, Martina (MJ) still has a big mouth). You’ll also get to know Jerry (Peyton and Christina’s little brother) a little better, and you’ll get a chance to meet Nate – Nick’s twin brother. Did you know he had a twin?
In LOVE UNDER CONTRACT, Nick’s love interest is Sumeera Robinson. You first met Sumeera in SEDUCING THE BOSS LADY – Peyton’s friend and realtor. Sumeera has had her share of hurt and disappointment in life, and though she was a little slow to let Nick get close, she fell hard for the sexy construction worker. Though dating for months, they realized they both wanted something different out of life, and Sumeera ended the relationship. At least she tried…
Here’s a little peek at their story.
BLURB
Timing is everything.
Sumeera Robinson refuses to settle for less than she desires, even if what she craves is the sexy, smart, and charming Nicolas Jenkins-Moore. At her age, she wants marriage and a family, not the empty promises Nick offers. Yet, there is just something about the man that makes moving on nearly impossible.
As the new senior manager of Jenkins & Sons Construction, Nick’s five-year plan is on track with marriage and starting a family at the bottom of the list. Sumeera is as beautiful inside as she is on the outside, but not even she can entice him to abandon his carefully plotted road to success. That is until she walks away without looking back, leaving him yearning for her presence in his life.
Nick is determined to convince Sumeera that he wants the same things she wants. But will an unexpected development keep them from the life they desire? Or will fate bring them closer than they’ve ever been before?
*
EXCERPT
Sumeera dropped her compact back into her purse as a loud rumbling motor sounded outside. She went back to the window and tilted the aluminum slat of the blinds down, willing herself to remain calm when she spotted Nick’s truck. There was a time in her life when she’d only been attracted to a man in a suit and tie, clean shaven, with a runner’s body. But nothing about Nicholas Jenkins-Moore resembled that picture.
Just over six-feet tall with dark soulful eyes and skin the color of toasted almonds, Nick, a sheet metal worker by trade, ran one of the largest construction companies in Cincinnati. Her heart pounded against her ribcage as she observed him standing behind his truck taking in his surroundings. He reminded her of a poster boy for everything rugged and powerful.
She wasn’t sure why he parked on the street instead of in the driveway, but it gave her a chance to admire him from a distance. He wore a dark wool cap pulled down low and sunglasses shielded his eyes. Even in his work coat, one could tell he had wide shoulders and a broad chest. His tree-trunk-like legs were encased in his customary blue jeans and dusty steel-toe boots covered his feet.
Sumeera remained rooted in place as desire hummed through her veins while she watched him. His long, easy gait carrying him up the driveway toward the house. With a diamond stud earring in each ear, his sexy goatee and tattoos that she knew covered his forearms beneath his coat, he was everything her prim and proper mother would disapprove of. Yet, Sumeera was crazy in love with the man. Hence, her biggest problem at the moment.
She and Nick had dated for seven months until she made the mistake of falling in love with him. It was a mistake because he had made it clear up front that he wasn’t looking for a serious commitment. Like so many women, Sumeera thought she could change him. Didn’t happen. Then she thought she could handle being in a relationship without knowing if it would amount to marriage, but quickly realized she couldn’t handle that either. And she definitely didn’t want to end up like her mother. Mona had stayed with Russell, who promised marriage, but thirty-five years later he was still making promises and they still weren’t married. That’s why Sumeera had put some distance between herself and Nick. She wanted a different life than her mother’s.
Sumeera stepped away from the window and closed her eyes, willing away the slight headache trying to creep in. She knew her constant tiredness and the random headaches were from working more than she’d been sleeping, and lately she’d been paying for it.
Nick rang the doorbell, and Sumeera opened her eyes. She wiggled her shoulders to relieve some tension, then ran her fingers through her hair hoping it looked alright.
“Okay. I’m ready.” She exhaled before opening the door. But no amount of preparation could have readied her for coming face to face with the man she’d dreamed about during many lonely nights over the last few weeks.
Nick removed his shades, placing them in the top pocket of his jacket that rested over his heart. She swallowed hard when their gazes collided. He studied her for what felt like hours. His sexy brown eyes scrutinized, doing a slow crawl down her body, and then back up again. Heat consumed her, making her want to fan herself, but she didn’t move.
“Hello, Sumeera.” His rich, deep voice washed over her like a gentle breeze, nipping at her skin, and her heart rate inched higher. His cologne, a woodsy scent, brought back memories of romantic nights and happier times. She hadn’t seen him in a month and a half, but there hadn’t been a day that went by that she didn’t think of him.
