When Love Calls – Sneak Peek!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Ah…2018! Can you believe it’s a new year? Just when I started to settle into 2017, it ended! But no worries. I am ready for 2018 and have big plans for this year! I’m kicking off the new year with a new release – WHEN LOVE CALLS (Jenkins Family & Friends Novella).

If you remember, in Love Under Contract, book 1 of the Jenkins & Sons Construction series, I introduced Sumeera’s parents: Russell McCray and Mona Gregory. I had no idea they would make such an impression on my readers! Since then, I have received a number of emails, asking about Mona’s story and what happened after she walked away from Russell. In addition to those emails, several of you have requested that I write stories about more seasoned characters.

Well, I listened! Mona is a fifty-seven-year-old woman who has always wanted to get married and have a family. Instead, the man she ended up with showered her with every material thing a woman could want, but wasn’t interested in marriage or having a large family. At first, that wasn’t enough to make Mona leave him, but over the last few years, Russell has changed. And while he’s not the same man she fell in love with, Mona realizes she’s not the person she used to be either.

ABOUT WHEN LOVE CALLS:

Mona Lisa Gregory is ready to live her best life. She’s moving on after thirty-five years of dating one man. Scrapping the holy matrimony fantasy, a carefree and no-strings-attached passion is her new obsession. But her perfect plan has one hiccup. Dexter Jenkins.

Dex is an old-school guy who believes in falling in love with one woman and living happily-ever-after. He once had it all. A great job. Money in the bank. A happy, thirty-year marriage. He lost everything he held dear after one unfortunate accident. Guilt plagued him for years, but he has finally forgiven himself. Now he’s ready to give love a try again.

Mona is not looking for long-term. But Dexter is unwilling to ignore the fierce passion they share whenever he holds her in his arms. He will do whatever it takes to make her the next Mrs. Jenkins. But will secrets from his past and her former lover keep them from having the life they deserve? Or will their love be strong enough to withstand every obstacle placed in their way?

SNEAK PEEK:

“Back to my original question. Would you like to go and see the latest Morgan Freeman movie with me?”

She snapped her finger. “That’s who you remind me of. I’ve been puzzling my brain since the first time you spoke to me trying to figure out who you sound like. That deep, sensual baritone is just like Morgan Freeman’s.”

A slow smile spread across Dexter’s lips. “Sensual, huh?” Over the years, people had often commented on the deepness and the power behind his voice. But hearing Mona call his voice sensual had him sticking his chest out, feeling as if he could conquer the world.

Mona opened her mouth, but nothing came out and she shut it. That shyness he’d witnessed more often than not was back and so was her adorable smile.

Deciding not to pick on her, he asked, “So, how about a movie?”

“When?”

“Right now.”

Now?

“The movie starts in thirty minutes.”

She glanced down at her outfit again. “I would love to go, but that doesn’t give me enough time to shower and ch—”

“You look amazing, Mona. All you need to do is slip into a pair of shoes and grab a jacket.”

She twisted her bottom lip between her teeth as if seriously considering his invite.

“I’ll give you three minutes,” he prompted.

“Make it five and we have a deal.”

She didn’t wait for a response. Instead, she rushed to the back of the condo. Exactly five minutes later she returned. She had pulled her hair into a ponytail at the nape of her neck, added gloss to her lips, slipped into a pair of knee-high boots, and wore a short leather jacket.

Dexter grinned, impressed at the speed in which it took her to look even sexier. “You look great.”

She laughed. “We really need to get your eyes checked.”

He liked this side of her. Relaxed and carefree.

When she started to move past him, Dexter reached out and grabbed her hand. Without thinking, he pulled her to him and captured her mouth with his. She gasped, but that didn’t stop him from taking what he wanted. She kissed him back with a hunger that rivaled his, and excitement charged through his body.

He had been dreaming about kissing her again, wanting to confirm that the first time wasn’t a fluke. That he hadn’t imagined how perfect her body felt against his. Or how kissing her was like a fantasy come true.

As their tongues tangled, the kiss sang through his veins, sending blood rushing from his brain to the lower part of his body.

Nope, it hadn’t been a fluke, he thought, as Mona’s arms went around his neck, deepening their connection. The lip-lock was like a soldering heat that joined metals and Dexter never wanted to let her go.

Mona didn’t know yet, but before long she’d be all his.

Blurb:

Can a man and a woman be best friends without somebody catching feelings?

Travis Barber and Sade Styles are best friends of the opposite sex. Despite what everyone thinks, they are not getting busy…yet.

Co-owners of a popular barbershop/salon in named CoEd, Travis and Sade spend the bulk of their days together. But when Sade’s apartment lease runs out and Travis offers her the spare bedroom of his newly built house, will they end up sharing more than just the utilities?

This witty, fast-paced romance seeks to answer the question: can a man and a woman be best friends without crossing that fine line into the land of lovers. Best case scenario, nothing happens. Worst case scenario, they get to know each other a little too well and end up hating each other!

Are Travis and Sade making the best move for their friendship?

Excerpt:

He said…

It was only a matter of time before Sade and I bumped uglies. The stars were lined up too perfectly for it not to happen. The air was too warm and sticky for us not to be hot and bothered. Lalah Hathaway was singing too good; hitting those low notes and high notes too right for us to not be affected. And Sade was wearing that black dress too well for me not to be nigh animalistic. A part of me laughed at the way I felt. Like Cookie Monster from Sesame Street when he tried to kick his cookie habit and he just couldn’t take it anymore. “Me must have cookie! NomNomNomNomNom.” In my mind, I’m chomping on that cookie and crumbs are flying everywhere.

Lalah was singing Forever, For Always, For Love. Sade and I were standing right in front of the stage. Lalah was looking good and all but that night, I only had eyes for Sade Styles, my poor little helpless cookie. She had no idea what she was in for. And she wasn’t making things better, the way she allowed me to drape my arms around her. And that dress? My goodness, that dress! It was form fitting and Sade’s form was hitting on all cylinders. The back of the dress…let me back up a minute…there was no back of the dress. It was only Sade’s skin. It’s a shame that all I could think about was sinking my teeth into her flesh. I tells ya! I was going to make Cookie Monster proud tonight.

Where was I? Yes, the dress. It cupped her backside! Did you hear what I said? The dress cupped her bottom so sweetly that I got weak in the knees when she walked out of the bathroom with it on earlier that evening. And she had the nerve to turn around, wiggle her hips and say, “What do you think?” Sade, I thought, you don’t wanna know what I’m thinking right now.

“What do you think about the dress?” she asked again when I didn’t reply immediately.

You see, it’s hard to talk when a cat has your tongue. I said something; I don’t even remember what it was. Whatever it was, it made her laugh.

“Boy, you are too silly. Let’s go.”

I was watching her walk in front of me, watching her turn around and smile as I lagged behind.

“Something wrong with your leg?” she asked. “Why are you walking like that?”

Well, Sade, I am extremely aroused right now. And I’m trying to situate myself without you noticing. “Must be a Charley horse,” I lied.

“You need me to rub your leg?”

Come on, man! You’re playing dirty now.

“Nah, I’m good.”

She paused, turned around and said, “Are you sure?”

Let me stop right here and tell you about how Sade smelled at that point in time. It was something sweet, something devious. The perfume was actually visible to me, surrounding her like a beautiful cloud. A hand formed from that cloud and its cloudy arm extended toward my nose. Tickled it. Gently caressed my chin. I swear the cloud asked me if I wanted Sade. I nodded my head yes.

“So you do want me to rub your leg?” she asked.

“No!” If she touched me right now…

“Okay,” she said as she turned around slowly. “Maybe later?”

I shook my leg. Situated myself. This was going to be a long evening.

Romancing Family Feud

Have you ever watched the TV game show – Family Feud? If so, you’ve probably wondered where (or how) they survey people to get the answers to the numerous questions. Well, I’m not sure how they do it, but this is how we do it (smile).

Last year, author Lauren H. Kelley and I hosted a fun game, Romancing Family Feud, at the annual Romance Slam Jam Conference (RSJ).

Sharon and Lauren

Readers and authors from all over the country came together and the conference was awesome! Needless to say, our game was a hit! At any rate, Lauren and I are hosting Romancing Family Feud at the conference (#RSJ2016) again this year in Detroit, MI, April 28-May 1, 2016.  We need your help! Don’t worry, this won’t hurt. As a matter of fact, it’ll be fun!

Complete the survey of romance questions by April 18, and be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win a gift card! The links are below and the surveys shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. Thanks in advance for your help!

Walk It Off

My friend Claire has a way with words and I chuckled throughout this post. While reading, for a minute, I thought she was writing about me! I could so relate as I get back into my workout routine to get these couple of extra holiday pounds off!

I’m with ya, Claire!

Woman@Heart

It started with nibbling leftover Halloween candy — my two months of over-indulgence. Almond-cranberry stuffing, artichoke dip and a two-pound box of See’s candy (nuts and chews) combined forces to put me where I am today — toting those infamous seven pounds that many of us are supposed to gain during the holiday season.

I can’t say I didn’t enjoy myself during the eight weeks of tasting the fruits of the holidays – or at least the fruit-flavors of the holidays. Even though I wasn’t curling up with a bowl of strawberries or a plate of celery, I did learn a few things. For example, did you know that there are 1,050 fat-free calories in a 9.5-oz box of Hot Tamales? Me neither. I found out the hard way when my usually forgiving relax-fit jeans refused to zip up and the numbers on my digital scale boldly climbed to where…

A New Year

Ahh, a new year and already I’m falling short on my new year’s resolution! So much for slowing down. Actually, maybe slowing down wasn’t a specific enough resolution … as I hustle to meet two book deadlines this month. Sigh. I should have just stuck with my original thought of not making any resolutions this year, but…

Well, at any rate, I actually wanted to take this time to wish you all a – HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here’s to new beginnings and wonderful adventures! May all of your dreams (and resolutions) come to fruition!
