About BLUE ROSES:

Where most women would welcome love from a wealthy, good-looking man, Chicago-based investment manager, Dallas Marcel, is not one of them. She will never let a man control her life again. That includes handsome entrepreneur, Tyler Hollister. Dallas is on track to making partner and she’s not letting anything or anyone get in her way. But when her life is put in danger, and a Ponzi scheme ignites a SEC investigation of her firm, she realizes the one man she’d banned from her heart, might be the only one who can save her career and her life.

Tall, dark, and handsome, Tyler Hollister can have any woman he wants, but he only wants one – Dallas. When he starts talking marriage, she breaks things off between them, claiming she doesn’t want a romantic entanglement to hinder her plight to making partner. A chance meeting, six months later, brings them face to face and Tyler soon realizes the intense sexual attraction they once shared is stronger than ever. But he swore he was done with her. Except he finds out her life is in danger, and his protective instincts take over. Can he save her life without losing his heart … again?

About RENDEZVOUS WITH DANGER:

Alandra Pargas, ex-CIA counter-intelligence officer, plans to wreak vengeance on the people who tried to kill her. A little rendezvous with danger is not what scares her, though. It’s seeing the tall, dark, and dangerously sexy man she vowed to love forever that has her running for cover.

Former U.S. Special Operative, Quinn Hamilton, left the world of covert operations after the love of his life died in his arms during a black op. Three years later, he still loses sleep wondering if maybe he could have done something more to save her – until Alandra shows up on his doorstep. With her lies and betrayal, he wants nothing to do with her, yet, his heart won’t cooperate. It’s not until unknown enemies come after her that he must decide if he can leave the past behind and protect the woman he’ll always love. Will they survive this last mission and rekindle the love and passion they once shared?

About TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES:

Hospital Chief of Staff Natasha Lockham’s life has been all about work and no play. That is until a one-night stand with a man who lives his life on the edge, turns her sexual fantasies into reality. She never expects to see him again, but their paths cross when Natasha suspects an esteemed doctor of committing an unspeakable crime against his patients and danger lands at her doorstep. The closer she gets to the truth, the more she realizes she’s not prepared for the truth – or the consequences.

Former Navy SEAL, Malik Lewis, will always remember the night he spent with Natasha. It was the single most amazing night of his life. So when Natasha narrowly escapes a brutal attempt on her life, Malik stops at nothing to protect her, including hunting a man whose skills match his. Can Malik and Natasha outsmart a vicious assassin who has nothing to lose? And will they ever get to explore the sizzling passion between them that neither can deny?

New Release – Operation Midnight!

Hi All!

It’s release day! Woo hoo! OPERATION MIDNIGHT, book 4 of the Reunited Series is now available for your reading pleasure! This is Wiz and Olivia’s story.

Midnight 800x533

You remember them right? Wiz is the computer guru who has helped some of his Navy SEAL brothers (Quinn and Malik) get their women out of some harrowing situations. And something you probably didn’t know – when Tyler (from Blue Roses) called on Quinn’s help to dig into Dallas’s background, guess who Quinn called. You got it – Wiz!

As for Olivia, she first made her appearance in Rendezvous with Danger (Quinn & Alandra’s story) when the guys (and Alandra) took a trip to D.C. and stayed at Olivia’s townhouse. She had a bigger role in Truth or Consequences (Malik & Natasha’s story) where she befriended Natasha, argued with Malik about calling her Ollie, and when she and Wiz announced that they were getting remarried.

Well, in OPERATION MIDNIGHT, we get to learn more about Wiz and Olivia – their life together before their divorce, as well as how they never stopped loving each other. We’ll journey with them through some trying times as they leap over a few more hurdles in their race to say “I do” one last time.

Blurb:

No bad deed goes unpunished

Former Navy SEAL turned private investigator, Cameron “Wiz” Miller, has loved only one woman, his ex-wife, Olivia. She’s beautiful, talented and the sweetest person he knows. With plans to remarry her, there is nothing she could ask of him that he wouldn’t do except … one thing.

Olivia has loved Wiz since high school. He is her hero. Her protector. She understands his hesitation to search for the woman who left her for dead. Forgiveness has been a long time coming, but Olivia has made peace with what happened. Wiz hasn’t. For him, forgiveness is not an option.

But the sins of the past have come back to haunt Wiz, placing Olivia in danger. He must tap into his military training and every alliance he has formed over the years to save her. But is it too late? Will he and Olivia ever get that happily-ever-after?

Excerpt:

I want you to find my sister.

Wiz stormed into the living room and snatched his pants from one of the chairs. His heart thumped wildly at the words he thought he would never hear. He couldn’t wrap his head around her request. Clearly she had forgotten about all the crap her sister had done.

“It’s like suddenly I don’t even know you.” Olivia’s voice broke into his thoughts when she silently entered the room.

Wiz shook his head and stepped into his slacks, keeping his back to her. “You know me. You know me well enough to understand that I would rather swallow a grenade than to have your sister in our lives.”

She sighed loudly. “Cameron, I didn’t say I want her in our lives. I’d like to connect with her for nothing more than a conversation.”

Fastening his pants, he glanced over his shoulder to find her standing near the bedroom door. The satiny red robe she wore stopped just above her knees, the color bringing out the warmth in her smooth, dark chocolate skin. His breath hitched as his gaze drifted slowly down her shapely body emphasized by the sash cinched tightly around her narrow waist. Damn if a certain part of his anatomy didn’t spring to attention. He knew what lay beneath the thin material. He knew how soft every inch of her skin was to the touch. And he knew that if he stayed in that room much longer, he would tell her whatever the heck she wanted to hear. Everything but the truth that is.

His gaze moved back up to her face and his heart leapt into his throat. The love radiating in her eyes, even after the way he had spoken to her made the vice around his heart tighten even more. He felt like crap for denying her of her request.

Damn Keisha. Even when she wasn’t around, she was still wreaking havoc. Just the thought of her made him want to rip something apart. But then there was Olivia. Staring at her now, the unyielding love he had for her made him want to take the three short steps it would take to reach her, and pull her into his arms. He wanted to come clean and tell her what happened to her sister all those years ago. But the bastard in him stayed rooted in place because he had vowed to take that one secret to his grave.

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: March 11, 2015
Length: 173 Pages

Ignoring a recent trauma that affects her everyday life, ER Doctor Kate Maguire engages in some high risk activities, but these situations aren’t enough to feed her edginess. She needs something more. When her brother’s high school best friend comes back to town, it’s her chance for a ‘no strings attached’ fling with the man who still headlines all her best dreams.

Rhys MacGrath’s days of one-night-stands are long over. The pro-football player might be side-lined at rehab for a shoulder injury, but that doesn’t mean he can’t admire and desire the all-grown-up, so-damn-hot, version of the tomboy he once knew. His sudden interest in Kate might aggravate his best friend, but it’s her indifference that drives Rhys crazy.

Everything heats up when Kate’s nosy nature puts her in the line of fire of an arsonist forcing Kate and Rhys to deal with more than just the sparks igniting between them.

Excerpt:

“Hi,” Rhys said.

Kate continued to stare at him, and her mouth may have been hanging open a little. She actually wished for the ability to teleport out of the room. Grey eyes, the color of a winter sky before a storm, scrutinized her. More than powerful in color, sharp and penetrating, like an X-ray.

Rhys was big, bigger than she remembered, taking up all the space behind the half-round table. His mid-length, layered dirty-blond hair and tanned face and neck made her think of sun and sand at the beach.

Rhys frowned. “Can I help you?”

His face had gone from friendly to wary as she gawked at him. No man should be this good looking, which should be irrelevant because he’d always been good looking. After all, he had been voted biggest flirt and most likely to meet you under the bleachers back in high school.

All the forgotten feelings she’d had for him slammed into her at once. Puppy love, like, lust, frustration, admiration, desire—all emotions she’d experienced at one time or another and, some, really not so long ago.

Finally, Kate took a shaky breath and decided she’d better leave to keep from embarrassing herself any further. “No. No, thanks, I’m good.”

Turning, she slammed straight into her mother, who held a full pot of coffee. The hot liquid splashed onto Kate’s chest and soaked into her shirt, steaming her skin underneath.

“Son of a—”

Here it is – Truth or Consequences!

I’m happy to announce the early release of my latest novel, Truth or Consequences, Book 3 of the Reunited Series! Malik Lewis was first introduced in Rendezvous with Danger, Book 2 of the Reunited Series. Malik – the slick talker, larger than life, I’ll-never-give-my-heart-to-a-woman kind of guy, was one of Quinn’s SEAL teammates and best friends. In Rendezvous, you were also introduced to Natasha Lockham – Alandra’s sister. Well … Natasha and Malik … ‘hooked up’!

Without further ado, here’s a snippet from Truth or Consequences

Truth or Consequences - 300x200

Excerpt

Natasha sluggishly opened her eyes, blackness surrounding her. In the distance, the hum of an air conditioner pierced the silence of the room and a surge of anxiety leapt within her body. Wha … Where am I? Her hands fisted the sheet as her gaze darted back and forth in the dark trying to figure out where she was.

Okay. Okay. Calm down and relax. Calm down and relax, she told herself, using the same chant she had used plenty of times when doing a surgery. Just calm down. She breathed, inhaling a deep breath and releasing it slowly as her eyes began to adjust to the darkness. Memories of the evening slowly penetrated her mind.

I’m at Malik’s house.

She sighed in relief and turned onto her side, snuggling into the pillow and hoping that sleep would once again claim her. Time passed and like earlier, when she closed her eyes, the scene at the café infiltrated her mind. She didn’t want to think. She didn’t want to remember. All she wanted was to be lulled back into the mindless, dreamless state she’d just come out of.

When she realized that wasn’t going to happen, she sat up in bed, only to sway to the left and then to the right. Whoa. She grabbed her head. Once the room stopped spinning, she planted her feet on the floor and felt her way to the adjoining bathroom. She wasn’t much of a drinker and the queasiness flowing through her body reminded her why. She hated the after effects of alcohol.

Happy to see a new toothbrush and toothpaste near the sink, she brushed her teeth and splashed cold water on her face. The small gesture had her feeling somewhat alive. Returning to the bedroom, she sat on the edge of the bed. It was too quiet. She could turn on the television mounted on the wall, but that’s not what she wanted. What she really wanted was to be wherever Malik was.

That’s not a good idea.

Ignoring her inner voice, she went in search of him. When she stepped into the hallway, it was just as quiet and dark. A light from the lower level illuminated part of the staircase, whereas the other end of the hallway was pitch-black. She didn’t hear Tank, so she assumed Malik had put him in the basement since he had mentioned it earlier.

She glanced across the hall at Malik’s bedroom, his door slightly opened.

Natasha brought her hand up to her mouth, her bottom lip folded between her teeth. She knew she was asking for trouble if she went to him in the middle of the night, but the need to be held was overriding all common sense.

With one foot in front of the other, she approached his door and slowly pushed it open. He had showed her around upstairs, but with the darkness, she could barely see her hand in front of her face. A sliver of moonlight shone through the slats of the blinds, guiding her to the massive bed in the middle of the room.

There wasn’t enough light for her to see him clearly, but it didn’t matter. She remembered every inch of his strong, enticing body. She licked her lips recalling how she dug her fingernails into his unbelievably broad shoulders the night he rocked her world. And she would never forget his wide chest, sprinkled with soft, dark hair perfect for running her fingers through.

Natasha swallowed hard. Why was she torturing herself? Torturing herself with memories of making love with a man who didn’t want the same things she wanted? Marriage. Children. She asked herself the question, but she knew the answer. Malik had brought her more pleasure in one night than her own husband had brought her in all the years they were together. She shook her head knowing she should go back to her room, but she couldn’t. She wanted him. Right now, she needed him.

Natasha stepped closer to the bed. Her heart lurched when her gaze landed on the spot where he’d been shot just below his ribcage during a mission in Afghanistan years earlier. She stretched out her hand, her fingers grazing the wound that had almost cost him his life.

Malik bolted upright with his gun drawn.

Natasha screamed when he grabbed her by the front of her T-shirt, the barrel of his gun between her eyes. Her heart slammed against her chest. Fear kept her from breathing. “Ma–Malik!” she cried, tears clouding her vision. “Please …”

Malik released her and slapped his hand against the side table. Light illuminated the room.

“What the hell?” he roared, his gun still drawn. “Are you crazy? You could have been killed!”

Natasha stumbled back. Tripping over his shoes, she landed hard on her tailbone. Fear kept her moving. She shuffled her feet and scooted away from him until she hit a wall, unable to go any further, unable to breathe.

Hump Day Hook and Giveaway

Happy Hump Day!

For this weeks hook, I’m sharing an excerpt from Rendezvous with Danger, book 2 of the Reunited Series. I’m also giving a $5 gift card away to one lucky commenter (details below).

Rendezvous w-Danger - Book Cover

Description

Excerpt

Two days after Alandra’s reappearance, Quinn sat in the parking lot of the hospital where she worked. Dark clouds with the threat of snow hung low, and Bonnie Raitt’s, Since I Fell for You, played through his truck speakers, adding to his already crappy mood. He couldn’t get Wiz’s words out of his head. Had Alandra really risked her life to protect him? If so, why? Though Wiz didn’t have concrete proof, he had a good argument to back up his theory – Alandra was in Tzbekystan that night because of something or someone she felt was a threat to him.

Quinn shook his head. It didn’t make sense. He was a trained assassin. What did she think she could accomplish by being there?

He inhaled a deep breath, released it slowly and rested his head against the headrest. Seeing Alandra again had aroused old feelings and unease he thought he had put behind him the day he found out she was dead. Could he be near her again without giving into the longing, the ache that had left his heart frayed and battered years ago?

He focused his attention on the hospital entrance. He had been sitting in the lot for fifteen minutes hoping to catch her before she went in to work. Either she was late, or he had gotten her work schedule wrong.

When her four-door Honda tore into the parking lot his chest tightened. An odd reaction for a man who told himself the night before, he wanted nothing to do with Alandra. Why should he help her when she didn’t care enough to let him know she was alive? He rubbed his forehead. I’ll help her with whatever mess she’s involved in and then move on. What was it about her that made him want to protect her? He’d been with plenty of women, but no one else took his breath away like her, or tempted him to throw caution to the wind just to be with them.

Alandra stepped out of her car. Rust caked the bottom of the doors. There was a noticeable dent near the front bumper, and the driver’s side door was gray where the rest of the car was brown. The thought of his wife driving around in that death trap made him sick. My wife. He had a wife. Was he ready to reclaim her as his wife? He shook his head. How could he when he still couldn’t believe she was actually alive? And part of him felt there was something she wasn’t telling him. He could feel it in his gut.

Alandra grabbed a black messenger bag from the backseat of her car and rushed toward the entrance. Quinn jumped out of his truck and hurried to meet her.

“Alandra!” he called out.

She stopped and her back stiffened before she slowly turned around. The look she gave him would’ve made a weaker man turn and hightail it out of there, but he was no ordinary man.

“What do you want?” she snapped, her voice low and frosty.

Her attempt at intimidating him with her coldness had the opposite effect. She was sexy as hell when she was angry. Her cheeks, crimson red, burned with anger and the nostrils on her delicate nose flared. A vein in her long, tempting neck twitched and those hypnotic eyes that he had lost himself in plenty of times grew dark and insolent. Oh yeah, she was pissed. The only thing missing was her speaking Spanish, which she used to do when she was angry or making love.

“We need to talk.”

“Oh, so now you want to talk?” She looked at him through narrow slits and inched toward him. “The other night you didn’t want anything to do with me. You kicked me out of your house like I was some two-bit tramp that you screwed and was tired of looking at.”

He sighed and pulled his wool cap lower on his forehead. Apologizing had never come easy for him and now was no different, but if he wanted to find out what was going on, he’d better come up with something, and it had better be good.

When several people exited the hospital, Quinn attempted to pull her off to the side, but she jerked out of his grasp.  “Look, I’m sorry, all right?” He tossed up his hands. “You shocked the hell out of me the other night. I was confused, angry, and shit…I didn’t know what to think.”

She glared at him, pulled her lightweight jacket closed and tugged her bag strap higher on her shoulder. She turned and walked away, moving to a small alcove just shy of the hospital entrance. Quinn followed.

“Since you want to talk, talk, because I have nothing to say to you.”

“Look, Alandra.”

Her head snapped up and her chin jutted out. “Stop calling me that! It’s Velvet.” She shoved her hands into her jacket pockets. “My name is Velvet Aguilar.”

Quinn cursed under his breath and closed the distance between them with one determined step. “Alandra,” he repeated, emphasizing her name. “I don’t know where you got that other name from, but I’m not about to refer to you as anything other than Alandra Pargas…Hamilton.”

She looked about as shocked as he felt by his words. One minute he wanted nothing to do with her, and the next he claimed her as his wife. What the heck is wrong with me? The sudden vulnerability he saw in her eyes made Quinn want to pull her close and cover those sweet pouty lips with his own. The magnetic pull they once shared was stronger than ever and by the look in her eyes, she felt it too. He so wanted to kiss her, but that would be a mistake since he knew from experience that one kiss from her wouldn’t satisfy him.

“Quinn.”

Her voice quivered and Quinn wasn’t sure if it was from emotion or if it was from the cold gust of wind. He shook out of his leather jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders. Holding on to the lapels he pulled her close, their faces within inches of one another.

“Listen to me. I’m not here to argue with you. I don’t know what brought you to Chicago, but I want to help if I can. You have to tell me what’s going on.”

She shook her head, tears suddenly lacing her eyelashes. “I can’t,” she mumbled. “I—” Her voice cracked.

“I can’t help you if you don’t tell me what you’re involved in.”

“No. Just stay away from me. I can’t explain, because there is so much I don’t know, and it’s not safe. Please, just stay away.”

Instead of fighting the urge to wrap her in his arms, he placed his hand on the back of her head and with a gentle tug, captured her lips with a hunger that rocked him to the core. The kiss immediately exploded into something more powerful than he could imagine, and dragged his memory back to what once was. His arm snaked around her waist and hers circled his neck. He didn’t care about the thirty degree weather, or that she was late for work. All he wanted was to recapture a little of what he had missed. He would face the consequences later.

Some LiKe it in Handcuffs

It is with great pleasure that I welcome Christine Wagner, author of Some Like it in Handcuffs, to my blog! Today Christine will tell us a little about herself and share her latest release. Let’s get started:

SomeLikeitinHandcuffs_w6337[1]

Christine, tell us a little bit about yourself.

I live in Michigan with my husband, 3 kids (only 2 live at home), 2 dogs and 2 cats. We live in the country and I love it. I work a couple of days a week at a large hospital, but hope to give that up to write full time in the future. I love to cook, read, spend time with family, and write, write, write.

What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of your pants or a combination of both?

Each book I write is a different process. I always start out with a quickie outline which goes over my basic plot points and character quirks, looks, etc. Sometimes I will outline by chapter as well. I like to have an outline to keep me on track, but a majority of the time I don’t stick to it. Another idea will pop into my head and steer me in an entirely different direction.

I know you’re not supposed to show favoritism but who’s been your favorite character to write?

That’s like asking a mother who is her favorite child. They each have characteristics and traits that I love. I really couldn’t name just one. I think that usually the characters I’m writing are my favorites because they are the ones I’m closest to at the moment. But if I put them away and work on another story, or read parts of a story I’ve already written…my opinion changes. lol

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I have a critique partner and have had a few beta readers in the past.

What do you do for fun?

I love to travel when time and money permits. But I’m also a huge fan of cooking. I love to try new things and mix things up and see what I end up with. Of course I enjoy reading, especially when I can enjoy it on the front porch when the weather is nice and I’m a huge fan of board games or card games if I can talk someone into playing. Lol  I’ve also started doing a girls night out once a month with a few friends where we will go out and try something new. Be it either an event or a food…we’re having a lot of fun with it.

Wow, that does sound like fun, and as for the board games, you wouldn’t have to talk me into playing. I too love them! So Christine, tell us about Some Like it in Handcuffs.

Sunny Kennedy, the only female in a family of blue blood male detectives, is determined to prove testosterone isn’t the only qualification required to solve a cold case. Handcuffed while undercover then taken to the precinct by an attractive detective, her domineering family demands she work with Detective Judson Blackwolf, or she’s off the case.

Judson Blackwolf thinks women in law enforcement should work behind the scenes. The prospect of working with his Captain’s sexy daughter doesn’t thrill him. He only agrees in hopes of solving the murder of his one time mentor’s daughter. Once the case is over, he’s moving to Montana to heal his wounds from the loss of his last partner.

But when their investigation takes a dangerous turn, Sunny and Jud soon realize their feelings for each other cannot be denied.

I’m looking forward to reading Some Like it in Handcuffs! What was your inspiration behind this book?

This might sound a little odd, but I actually came up with the title first. Those five words popped into my head and from there characters were formed, plots tweaked and my storyline was born. I’ve found since then that I love to have a title before writing begins, even if I end up changing it J

If you were going to cast the characters of your book for the movie version of Some Like it in Handcuffs, what actors would get the part?

That’s a tough one. I didn’t use an actor or actress when I pictured my characters and described them in the book. I’m going to take the easy way out here…lol…whoever auditions for the role and gets it will be fine. As long as the hero is tall, dark, humorous and sexy and the heroine is sassy, blonde, and full of spunk.

Excerpt from Some Like it in Handcuffs:

“This isn’t how I wanted it between us.”  Judson grabbed the neckline of her sweater, dragging her body to meet his with a solid thump.  Sunny licked her lips in answer to the question in his eyes.  He lowered his head to move his mouth over hers.

Sunny closed her eyes, a small whimper escaping her lips.  She didn’t want it like this either, but that wasn’t possible.  Unable to resist her attraction she accepted it wasn’t an affair, or a long distance romance she craved, but for him to love her back.  It was all or nothing for her.  Her heart sank.  She accepted this as their goodbye kiss.

With no thought to what was happening upstairs, Sunny rose up on her toes demanding more.  Her lips pulsated against Judson’s.  When his hand trembled against her cheek in a soft caress she lost touch with reality.

“Judson.” Sunny’s weakened body drifted farther into Judson’s as his fingers glided down her arms, pulling them to her sides where their fingers intertwined.  He forced them behind her before his tongue thrust into her mouth.

Their bodies molded together, she heard her own heartbeat and his as well when he curved his fingers around her rear and squeezed.

That’s when the click of the handcuffs against her wrist connected her to the handle of the locked cupboard.

“What the hell…Judson?”  She looked up at him, her knees shook, her body still inflamed with fever.

“Like I was saying, you wait here and I’ll go upstairs to check it out.  Backup’s already been called, so you’re safe until your brothers arrive.”  Judson winked before walking toward the steps to the third level.  Once he reached them he turned toward her and smiled.  “Gotcha,” he whispered with his notorious grin.

A Little Rendezvous for You

I just wanted to take a moment to give you an update on Rendezvous with Danger. I have received some wonderful emails from readers, who have enjoyed Secret Rendezvous – the short story prequel to Rendezvous with Danger, but are anxiously awaiting Quinn and Alandra’s novel. Rendezvous with Danger, the second book of my Reunited Series, was originally scheduled to be release at the end of January, but due to some setbacks, the release date has been pushed back to February. I won’t have the exact date until next week.

For those of you who are not familiar with Quinn and Alandra – Quinn was first introduced in, Blue Roses, the first book of the Reunited Series. And then we journeyed with both Quinn and Alandra to Guerrero, Mexico in the short story prequel, Secret Rendezvous. NOTE: If you haven’t read the short story, click here to get your FREE copy today!

Now, for the good news – since I’ve run into a couple of delays with Rendezvous with Danger, I figured the least I could do is share some excerpts over the next few weeks. Here’s one for you:

Rendezvous w-Danger - Book Cover

Blurb

Former U.S. special operative, Quinn Hamilton, left the world of dangerous clandestine missions for a life of peace and real estate development. But the simple life he enjoys is suddenly turned upside down when the only woman he’s ever loved, returns from the dead – sort of. Alandra Pargas faked her death three years ago. With her lies, deceit and betrayal, he wants nothing to do with her, yet, his heart won’t cooperate. He can’t forget the soul-searing kisses, and the passion filled nights they once shared. It’s not until unknown enemies come after her that he must decide if he can leave the past in the past, and protect the woman he’ll always love.

Velvet Aguilar, formerly Alandra Pargas, ex-CIA counterintelligence officer, plans to wreak vengeance on the people who tried to kill her. A little rendezvous with danger is not what scares her, though. It’s seeing the tall, dark, and dangerously sexy man she vowed to love forever that has her running for cover. Will Quinn ever forgive her for leaving him? And will they survive this last mission and rekindle the love and passion they once shared?

Rendezvous with Danger – Excerpt (unedited)

Quinn eased around the paint-chipped pillar, and along the musty-smelling hallway, his gun held close to his body and ready to shoot anyone who got in his way. All Quinn needed was to leave the building without being detected.

“You have twelve minutes to get out of there Q,” Malik said through Quinn’s earpiece.

Quinn proceeded through the corridor, his body tight against the uneven wall. He made the first turn and moved down the dimly lit hallway where a single bulb dangled from a sub-standard light fixture. He heard voices coming from a room to his right, so he turned left and maneuvered down the staircase. Ten more yards and he would be home free.

He made it to the final step and halted when he heard footsteps running on the level above him and then down the stairs behind him. He ducked into a nearby utility closet, not closing the door completely.

“We have a problem.”He  heard Malik say in his ear.

No kidding, Quinn thought.

“Two snipers on the rooftop of the building adjacent to the one you’re in. Sit tight.”

Missions like this Quinn normally did solo, but he was glad Malik was there. They’d run into a few snags, and his presence had proven beneficial.

“All clear.”

No longer hearing footsteps, Quinn eased back into the hallway, down the back stairs and out of the building into the night. He made sure the information he had just stolen was secure inside his jacket, and he inched toward the gate. A tree branch snapped. Quinn slammed his body against the brick wall, blending into the darkness of the night. He stood still for several seconds and heard it again. Slowly, he turned his head toward the noise. What he saw, several yards away under the dim moonlight, made his heart stop.

Alandra. What in the… He blinked several times, unable to fathom why she was thousands of miles from home, and standing in the middle of what could easily become a war zone.

He retraced his steps. She anxiously looked around the area and then back at the small device she held in her hands. Within five feet of her, he must have made a noise because her head shot up and their eyes connected. And in slow motion everything exploded around her.

“Get down!” He yelled and saw her fall to her knees.

Without thinking he ran to her and chaos erupted in every direction. He scooped her up and nestled her behind a long concrete block, and then he noticed, she’d been shot.

“Oh, shit.”

“Quinn,” she said, grasping at his shirt, her eyes wild. “Please … be careful.”

“Malik, I need you. Now!” Quinn growled into his mouthpiece giving Malik his location while he jerked out of his jacket and placed it under Alandra’s head.

“On my way,” Malik said.

“Hang on baby. We’re going to get you out of here.” He ripped open her down vest and then her shirt to determine the extent of her injury. Blood spilled from the chest wound. Damn.  He glanced around trying to decide the best route to safety as he removed his shirt, leaving him with only a black T-shirt on. Gunshots rang out around him as he pressed his shirt over her wound to slow the bleeding.

“Quinn… I love…you. I have to tel…”

“I love you too, baby, but I need you to hold… Oh, damn. Alandra? Alandra?” he growled when her eyes rolled to the back of her head. He cradled her closer to his body, willing her to stay with him. “Lan…” he started but felt a bullet slap the back of his shoulder – and then his back. Paralyzed by the sharp pain that traveled down his spine, gripping him like steel claws, he struggled to hold on to Alandra, fighting the blackness that threatened to overpower him.

“Alandra, baby, I…need you…to hold on.”

Blurb

Former Navy SEAL, Quinn Hamilton, is a special operative for the U.S. government and has been secretly dating CIA counter-intelligence officer, Alandra Pargas, for eight months. She’s brilliant, excited by danger, and the sexiest woman he’s ever known. Together they are a force to be reckoned with – inside and outside of the bedroom. But while Alandra is on assignment in Guerrero, Mexico, she’s captured by the country’s most dangerous drug cartel, and Quinn sets out on a black op of his own to save the woman he can’t live without.

Secret Rendezvous is the short story prequel to Rendezvous with Danger. Join me as we visit an old friend, Quinn Hamilton (first introduced in Blue Roses) and meet his love interest, Alandra Pargas.

Excerptthe excerpt below is right after Quinn finds out that Alandra is in trouble in Guerrero, Mexico.

“Damn! I can’t believe this shit,” he growled and slammed his hand against the steering wheel. This was why he hated her job, and knowing that she was in danger made him want to spit bullets. The CIA had their protocol for getting their agents out of dangerous situations, but Quinn could get into Guerrero and out before the CIA could mobilize a team.

He dug through the inside pocket of his jacket for his back up cell phone, his pulse pounding in his ears. He didn’t know what he’d do if anything happened to her. Alandra was everything he wanted in a woman. Strong willed, highly intelligent, and sexy as hell. They were perfect together. Eyes the color of honey, the face of an angel, and a curvaceous body made for loving. She was truly the total package, and he’d kill anyone who laid a hand on her.

He called a friend who owned a plane.

“Didn’t I just see you?” Terry Haines answered by way of greeting.

Quinn had run into Terry when he’d gotten off the plane twenty minutes ago.

“Yeah, man, but I have a huge favor.” He darted in and out of lanes hoping he wouldn’t get pulled over for reckless driving. “I need to get to Acapulco as soon as possible. Can you hook me up?”

“How fast can you get here?”

“Twenty minutes.”

He disconnected and speed-dialed the next person, not caring about the California hands free driving law.

“Yeah,” Cameron answered on the first ring.

“Wiz, I need your help.”

Cameron Miller earned his nickname “Wiz,” during their SEAL days for his uncanny ability to manipulate any computer or anything remotely related to a computer.

“You don’t sound too good. You okay?”

Hell no he wasn’t okay. The woman he loved more than life was in trouble and he was trying like hell to get to her before it was too late.

“I’m on my way to Mexico. Can you use your fancy equipment to trace this number?” He gave Wiz Alandra’s number, but not her name. He had yet to tell his friends he was seeing someone exclusively. Based on his bachelor for life motto, they probably wouldn’t believe it anyway. Besides, he wanted to keep their relationship quiet due to the work he did and the enemies he’d made. The last thing he needed was to have an adversary use her to get to him. “I’ll call you back when I get to the airport.”

“You got it. Anything else?”

“Yeah, call José in Acapulco. I’m heading that way and I’m going to need his help…and a helicopter.”

“Q, man, if you’re in some kind of trouble just say the word and I’m there.”

“I know, and I appreciate it. Right now I need you to stay near the phone and the computer. Let José know that this is a rescue mission. I need to get into Coyuca de Catalán once night falls and out of there even faster. I’ll call him with more details soon.”

A moment passed before Wiz spoke. “Who needs rescuing?”

“A friend.” Quinn’s hands gripped the steering wheel so tight his knuckles turned white. He didn’t want Alandra anywhere near the heartless bastards who ran drug cartels in Guerrero. He could still hear her in the background shouting out her location every so often. He not only wanted her to keep the phone on so that he could trace her location, but he wanted her to feel as if he were there with her.

Quinn blew out a ragged breath. He wanted to punch something or someone. He had to keep reminding himself that Alandra was a trained agent. She could kick ass better than some men he knew.

Wiz whistled through the phone. “Damn, this must be some friend. I seem to remember a certain ruthless drug lord who told you that if he caught you back in Guerrero again, he’d cut off your head and send it to your mother. Are you sure you don’t need me and Malik to roll with you?”

Malik Lewis, a fellow operative and another one of Quinn’s best friends, had saved his butt plenty of times, but right now there was no time to get everyone together. Besides, the less people involved the better.

“I’m good, man.” Quinn gave him additional instructions and disconnected just as he arrived at the airport.

Seconds later Alandra’s breath came in short spurts through the cell phone. She called out that she was climbing over yet another wall. He knew she heard dogs barking and yelling in the distance because he could hear them.

“They’re getting closer,” Alandra whispered. Quinn had been a part of more missions than he could count, some more dangerous than others, but this was personal. Nothing compared to hearing fear in his woman’s voice. So help me if anything happens to her…

Secret Rendezvous – Sneak Peek

Here’s an excerpt from Secret Rendezvous, the short story prequel to Rendezvous with Danger (book two of the Reunited Series). Some of you will recognize one of the main characters, Quinn Hamilton, the best friend and business partner of Tyler Hollister in Blue Roses. Enjoy.

Excerpt

“Hey, baby, where are you?” Quinn Hamilton merged into traffic going south on interstate 405 toward Huntington Beach, California.

“I’m still in Mexico, about an hour from the airport. God, I’ve missed you. It’s …”

When Alandra’s voice faded, Quinn thought the call had dropped. “Alandra? Hello?” He fiddled with the steering wheel’s volume control in his Escalade truck. “Hello? Lan?”

“Hey, I’m still here. The reception is awful. What I was saying is that it’s good to hear your voice. I’ve missed you.”

“Yeah, baby, me too. I can’t wait to see you. I have big plans for you tonight.”

“Mmm, I love it when you talk dirty, Papi. Tengo planes grandes para ti tambien.”

Quinn laughed. “Girl, don’t play with me. Somehow, I doubt your plans for me are as big as my plans for you. I already don’t think I’ll be able to control myself. We have five weeks to make up for.”

“I know, and I’m going to make it worth your while.”

“Oh, yeah, now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.” He had just arrived in L.A. after spending a month in the jungles of Belize on a mission, and he needed some relaxation. He drove a little faster, anxious to get to his vacation home overlooking the Pacific Ocean where he and Alandra would spend the next five days in seclusion.

“I just hope I don’t miss my plane. Traffic is literally inching along,” Alandra said.

“Was there an accident or something?”

“I’m not sure. I’m still a ways back, but hold on. Let me step out and see if I can tell what’s going on.” Seconds later Quinn heard her say, “Oh crap.”

“What?”

“There’s a road block or checkpoint ahead. They’re stopping people, and it looks like they’re searching cars. No wonder traffic is backed up.”

Quinn swore under his breath. He didn’t like the sound of that. A former Navy SEAL and now a special operative for the U.S. government, he was suspicious of anything that involved spot-checking cars, especially in Guerrero, one of the most violent states in Mexico.

“I know you know this, but make sure you’re in the far right lane, or whichever lane you can use to make the quickest exit. They’re looking for something…or someone. Are they federales?”

“I don’t know yet, but I should be able to tell when I get a little closer.”

“Lan, please tell me Harry didn’t put you on an assignment that has anything to do with dr—”

“Okay, I won’t tell you.”

Damn. Why the hell would he send her there by herself if it involved anything with drugs? As one of the CIA’s best counterintelligence agents, Alandra Pargas, could take care of herself, but that didn’t stop him from worrying about her or hating her job. Alandra’s boss, director Harry O’Brien, a total jerk in Quinn’s opinion, had given her the assignment that landed her in Mexico off and on for the past few months.

“Q, I will tell you this though. Something strange happened yesterday.”

“Strange like what?”

“Well, maybe not strange, but unnerving. Yesterday morning there was a scuffle across the street from my apartment. I looked out the window and three men were roughing up this kid, who was maybe…oh, I don’t know, seventeen or eighteen. Anyway, the kid handed over some money, but they kept saying ‘Where’s the rest of it? Where’s the rest of it?’ It definitely sounded like it was drug related.”

“Did either of them see you?”

“At first I didn’t think so. I had grabbed my camera so that I could get a better look and when I zoomed in, I recognized one of the men as being my neighbor, Tomás. Now this is where it got strange. A few hours later, I left my apartment, and he was standing against the wall outside my door.”

“Alandra, I don’t like this shit. Did he say anything to you?”

Seconds passed before she spoke. “He said, ‘I know who you are,’ and then he walked away.”

“What?” Quinn yelled. “Are you saying your cover is blown?”

“As far as I know, it’s not. I’ve only used the name, Selena McKenzie, since I first arrived. There’s no way he could know my real name. I think he was just trying to scare me.”

Well, he sure as hell scared Quinn. “I can’t stand you being so far away by yourself.”

“Aww, are you worried about me? Will you come looking for me if I’m not at our secret rendezvous spot on time?”

He never thought he’d ever feel this way about a woman, but he’d move heaven and earth to get to her. “You just get here. We’ll talk more about this Tomás guy when I see you.”

“Uhh…Quinn…”

The fine hairs on the back of his neck rose with those two words.

“What’s wrong?” He slowed down, not realizing he was going ninety miles an hour. “What’s going on, Lan?”

“I have a serious problem. I’m using the zoom on my camera and though there are a few cars ahead of me, from here it looks like the federales and some other men are showing my photo. And …oh damn, Tomás is one of them.

Quinn swerved over to the shoulder of the highway and parked. “I need you to listen to me very carefully. Tell me exactly where you are. Tell me everything you see. Then you need to get the hell out of there.”

“I’m surrounded by cars. I can’t drive out of this mess.”

He heard rustling – and then, nothing. “Alandra!”

“I’m here. I’m here. I’m putting my camera away and gathering my stuff from the back seat.”

“All right, now tell me how many federales, or whoever the hell they are do you see? Are they carrying weapons? And where are you? Baby, I need as much information as you can give me before you exit that car.”

“Q, there’s no time.”

“Tell me, dammit!”

“Okay. Okay. I’m on Zihuatanejo, a two-lane highway going north. There’s a gas station, Pemex, and a storage unit next to it that has a lot of tires outside near the street. I see a half-wall on my right with advertisement of some sort. There are about six men going from car to car, two per car. Some are carrying machine guns and all are wearing military uniforms. Some look like federales, but the ones with purple bands around their left arms look harder…more dangerous. There are several SUVs with dark windows parked on the side of the road, near the checkpoint. Quinn, I have to get out now, or I’ll miss my opportunity.”

He darted back into traffic. A short distance ahead, he exited and returned to the interstate. He had to get back to the airport. Thank God, she had the phone he’d given her. The one with the tracking device his friend had invented. He’d be able to track her if the worst happened. But his goal was to make sure the worst didn’t happen.

“I’m glad you’re on the phone I gave you. Keep it on and put it in your pocket or somewhere I can still hear you.”

“But if I’m caught and they find it… it’ll lead back to you.”

“Don’t worry about it. Once we figure out exactly where you are, we’ll take care of the phone on this end.”

“What? How?”

“Alandra, baby, please, just leave it on. Every so often I want you to shout out where you are or what you see.” He knew all of her training would kick in once she hit the ground running, but that didn’t keep him from worrying about her safety.

“Got it,” she whispered. “And Quinn, I love you.”

“I love you too, and I will find you.”
